Alexander Skarsgard was joined by leading ladies Ellen Page and a Balenciaga-clad Brit Marling for the premiere of The East in LA last night. The trio were accompanied by their costar Patricia Clarkson, as well as their director Zal Batmanglij. Brit did double-duty on the film since she starred and also cowrote the project with Zal, who is a longtime friend. Brit explained her inspiration behind writing the political drama, which centers on a group of anarchists with the goal of taking down corporations, saying, "I wrote it because it's fun to write great parts for women. For all the great women that are in this film: Ellen Page and Patty Clarkson and Julie Ormond. It's fun to write a girl who is an espionage action-hero. You don't see that too often." The East is slated to hit theaters on Friday.
Alexander Skarsgard was joined by his costars to premiere his new film, The East, at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. He posed for photos with Ellen Page and director Zal Batmanglij and happily greeted Brit Marling on the red carpet while she was taking pics. Later Alexander, Ellen, and Brit got together for a few friendly portraits to promote the movie, which follows a woman who is trying to infiltrate an anarchist group and becomes infatuated with the group's leader. Alexander, Ellen, and Brit are just a few of the celebrities who are showcasing their latest projects at Sundance. Penelope Cruz wore Emilio Pucci to join her To Rome With Love costars last night in NYC for a screening at the Paris Theatre in honor of their film's release tomorrow. She linked up with costars Alec Baldwin, Greta Gerwig, and director Woody Allen for the premiere. Alec made the rounds with fiancée Hilaria Thomas on his arm, while Woody Allen fan Jon Hamm stepped out with his girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt. Penelope, though, skipped out on the star-studded afterparty held at Casa Lever. Chris Rock came out for the celebration, and caught up with John Legend.
Woody's latest picture is out tomorrow, but so far, early To Rome With Love reviews are mixed. It's his and Penelope's second project together after 2008's Vicky Cristina Barcelona — do you plan on seeing this one? Penelope was thrilled to pair up with Woody again, saying at a press conference Tuesday, "I find him so fascinating. He's so unique. I'm lucky that I get to be directed by somebody that I admire so much, and I am lucky I get to hang out with him."
The cast of To Rome With Love was in NYC Tuesday to chat about their new Woody Allen-directed comedy, which hits theaters in the US tomorrow. Penélope Cruz headed up a roster of actors including Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page, Greta Gerwig, and Italian star Alessandra Mastronardi to chat about the project at the Loews Regency Hotel. Woody spoke about his movie-making and writing process, but it turned out that he was the topic of most of the discussion. Penélope, Alec, Woody, and Greta all spoke about the privilege of working with Woody, calling themselves "nervous" and "lucky" to even be there. Here are highlights from their press conference:
- Penélope on shooting in Rome: "I loved working there, and I am a huge fan of Italian cinema. There are things about [her character] Anna that I thought about in the back of my head, but she is also a character that has no filter with her brain, and she says everything she feels. It's so refreshing to play somebody like that, and it was refreshing and beautiful to be with Woody in homage to Italian cinema."
- Alec on working with Woody: "With Woody Allen, you have someone who is responsible for more memorable moments on every level of writing, producing, directing, and acting than any other person who has lived in film, really. You think about the countless, countless dozens of films — and even Woody Allen's less successful efforts are better than most other films you see. Then you see the greatest films he's made, and they are some of the greatest films ever made. So when he calls you and asks you to come and do this with him, if you're available, you go. You want to hitch a ride on this and be a part of them, because this is a guy who is just on an island of his own in terms of filmmaking."
- Penélope on trying to keep Woody's career in perspective: "I was trying to look at him and forget all the admiration, all of the respect, and all of the beautiful moments that I had experienced through his work. Because if you don't put that aside and focus on what you have to do, I would be starstruck the whole time. It still happens to me when I am with him. I find him so fascinating. He's so unique. I'm lucky that I get to be directed by somebody that I admire so much, and I am lucky I get to hang out with him, that I get to spend time with him, that I get to hear him speak. He makes me laugh all day long, so I feel really lucky that I get this time with him."

Penélope Cruz linked up with her To Rome With Love costars yesterday for a press conference in NYC. Along with Ellen Page, Greta Gerwig, and Alec Baldwin, Penélope discussed what it's like working with a director like Woody Allen. Woody himself was in on the fun, along with the other leading lady from the film, Alessandra Mastronardi. Rome is the latest city to get Woody Allen's attention, after he's focused on international hot spots like Barcelona, Paris, and London in recent years. His original inspiration was, of course, the Big Apple. Woody's next project will bring him home to the US, at least, as he's planning to do much of the shooting of his next project — which stars Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper, and Alec — in San Francisco. Penélope's upcoming project, meanwhile, will be Ridley Scott's The Counselor.
Liv Tyler had her American Idol judge father, Steven, on her arm for the LA premiere of her new movie Super last night. The Aerosmith frontman has been busy promoting his Fox program and bonding with his new buds Ryan Seacrest and Jennifer Lopez, but he seemed happy to support his daughter's big evening and even show some paternal PDA. Her costars in the indie superhero film Ellen Page and Rainn Wilson also stepped onto the red carpet, and later Rainn and Liv tore up the dance floor with their crazy moves. Liv has been focusing on her East Coast social schedule recently alongside her rumored boyfriend Theo Wenner, who is both the son of Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner and a photographer who memorably shot Robert Pattinson for Dossier magazine in 2009.
While the fashion world has all eyes on NYFW, tons of stars flocked north to Canada for the big first weekend of the Toronto Film Festival. On Friday, the cast of The Town headed out to dinner together after a successful press conference earlier in the day. By Saturday, Jennifer Garner flew out from LA to meet her husband, Ben Affleck, and joined in the red carpet fun at last night's premiere of The Town. She wore a sexy black dress, while Blake Lively was a showstopper in red sequins. Ben once again goofed around with Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner before introducing his second directorial effort to the audience. The whole crew, Jennifer included, celebrated late into the night at their afterparty. Ben's best friend Matt Damon also has a movie at the festival, Hereafter, and he stepped out yesterday afternoon for a private lunch for his ONEXONE foundation.
James Franco arrived in the morning yesterday, just in time for his first press conference promoting 127 Hours. The incredibly intense Danny Boyle movie based on the true story about a trapped rock climber is already getting great reviews, and enigmatic James happily posed with his costar Kate Mara. On Friday, Megan Fox gushed about married life with Brian Austin Green by her side at the screening of her Passion Play. Vogue covergirl Carey Mulligan had a big grin on her face for the debut of Never Let Me Go while her boyfriend, Shia LaBeouf, was spotted jogging elsewhere in the city on Saturday. Clive Owen put on a sexy stare for his duties talking Trust alongside his director David Schwimmer. Javier Bardem was in town for Biutiful, Marion Cotillard looked gorgeous for Little White Lies, and Ellen Page got buddy buddy with Justin Long for her project Super. Stay tuned for more from the festival!

Last night saw the Hollywood premiere of Leonardo's exciting new movie Inception and Leo's co-stars Marion Cotillard and Ellen Page did not disappoint. The duo appeared together on the red carpet both sporting dark lined smokey eyes. Ellen's were heavier, paired with dewy blusher and nude lips. Meanwhile Marion's were a softer version, worn with long luscious lashes and her hair swept back in to a chic chignon. I thought they both looked great! Ellen normally sports more toned down looks, so it's lovely to see her embrace her glamorous side. Meanwhile, Marion always looks sensational. Who's smokey eye makeup did you like better?
After the world premiere of Inception in the UK last week, the cast moved on to Paris where they posed for photos before a screening of the movie. Ellen Page looked fab in a printed dress, and Leonardo DiCaprio looked handsome as ever in his suit. Marion Cotillard upped the fashion stakes in her eye-catching dress, and also gave Michael Caine a friendly cuddle. Newly-engaged couple Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley arrived together, he looked casual as he approached the premiere, but took his cap off and added a suit jacket before posing for photos. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy and Ken Watanabe also attended.
